
Vatican Imposes Penalties on Retired Polish Bishop After ‘Vos Estis’ Probe

Bishop Tyrawa is the latest in a series of Polish bishops to have faced investigations under Vos estis.
The nunciature’s statements said the Holy See made the decision to sanction the bishops “as a result of the completed investigation,” which followed the procedures set out in Pope Francis' 2019 motu proprio Vos estis lux mundi.
The suit alleges that “in or about the summer of 1977,” when the alleged victim was 11 years old, Bishop Hubbard approached him in a storage room during a carnival being held at St. Edward parish, and sexually assaulted him.
The investigation into Bishop Oscar Cantú concerns alleged actions or inactions in cases of clerical sexual misconduct in the Diocese of Las Cruces, where Cantu served as bishop from 2013 to 2018.
Archbishop Głódź served as archbishop of Gdańsk from 2008 to Aug. 13, 2020, when the pope accepted his resignation on his 75th birthday.
