After years of international service to the Church and teaching in the U.S., Msgr. Fredrik Hansen’s new appointment as coadjutor bishop of Oslo is bringing him back to his native land.
Known for his lengthy and distinguished diplomatic career, he served as permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations from Dec. 3, 1986, to Oct. 1 — the longest any diplomat has held that position since its creation in 1964.
Underlining the complementarity of men and women, the Vatican diplomat said that the empowerment of women will have positive results for both society at large and within the family, which is the fundamental unit of society.
Addressing the permanent council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna Jan. 14, Fr. Janusz S. Urbańczyk said he hopes the council will devote close attention to the problem.
Addressing the conference, the Vatican's top diplomats focused on the necessity of protecting freedom of conscience and religious voices in the public square.
Msgr. Carlo Alberto Capella, who admitted guilt, was given a five-year prison sentence and fine of 5,000 euro at the close of his two-day trial.
The Holy Father reminded them that they are ambassadors for Christ: ‘Your whole life is at the service of the Gospel and of the Church. Never forget it!’
