FUS is one of several Catholic colleges in the United States to not only offer pregnancy support but also provide a maternity home for students while they pursue their education.
Stephen Hildebrand, vice president for academic affairs at the university, said in the school’s press release that the program is one of a kind.
Both dioceses will discuss the feasibility over the next few months.
Bishop Monforton led the Catholic diocese of Steubenville — home to the Franciscan University of Steubenville — for more than a decade.
The Latin Mass will still be offered weekly at St. Peter’s Church in Steubenville, which is a parish church about a mile from campus.
‘Further discussion regarding the Diocese of Steubenville’s future will be conducted at the diocesan level,’ Bishop Jeffrey Monforton said Nov. 7. More than 15 priests and two deacons penned a letter to the bishops of Ohio asking them to reconsider the merger.
Father Pivonka noted that although the additional financial assistance will be provided to all students regardless of their ability to pay, he encouraged those who are able to donate to the Step in Faith Fund to help to finance the aid.
