Along with taking part in “Cooking with the Saints” classes at his parish, Fernandes has offered a class on Goan cooking honoring St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of Goa.
One of the first Jesuit priests, Xavier brought the message of Christ to India, the distant islands of the Indonesian archipelago, and Japan.
Friend of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Jesuit also brought the Gospel to Japan. But before he could find a way into China’s heartland, he died, in 1552.
Thus began the reign of Christ in Japan, carried on the wings of his own almighty wind.
COMMENTARY: Sts. Isidore, Teresa of Ávila, Ignatius Loyola, Francis Xavier and Philip Neri were incandescent with a desire to share the gift of faith.
This Saturday, the Vatican will commemorate the 400th anniversary of the recognition of the holiness of Sts. Teresa of Avila, Francis Xavier, Ignatius of Loyola, Philip Neri and Isidore of Madrid.
The film makes its EWTN debut on Dec. 3, exploring the formative years that transformed St. Francis Xavier into an apostle to India and the Far East.
