Theologians warn that open-ended proposals and questionable theological foundations in the new text could allow activists to push forward controversial agendas.
COMMENTARY: Without explicit clarification, the synthesis document of the recent Synod on Synodality seems to teeter on a Protestant understanding of ministry, where all ministry flows from baptism, and a correspondingly Protestant ecclesiology, which is essentially baptismal and only secondarily Eucharistic, if at all.
COMMENTARY: While most of the conversation about the Council focuses on its connection with the past, there are at least two important areas where we still need to realize its future.
