The president of the U.S. bishops’ conference is praying for the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, after he was attacked in his home in San Francisco on Friday morning. San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is also keeping the family in prayer.
Pelosi, who is in Rome on a family vacation, attended Pope Francis‘ Mass for the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Archbishop Cordileone's instructions apply only within the San Francisco Archdiocese. Other bishops have jurisdiction over such matters when Pelosi is in Washington, D.C., and other dioceses around the U.S. and abroad.
Archbishop Cordileone notified the Speaker of the House of his decision May 19 and released letters to the priests and the laity of the Archdiocese of San Francisco explaining the act May 20.
Over the years, the speaker of the house has defended abortion while citing her Catholic faith.
The archbishop explained to his priests that since September 2021, he has made several attempts to have a dialogue with Pelosi about her support for legal abortion.
Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone announced on Friday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should not be admitted to Holy Communion in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, nor should she present herself to receive the Eucharist, until she publicly repudiates her support for abortion.
Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, Pelosi's local bishop, has instructed her not to receive Communion because of her extreme pro-abortion-rights actions.
