A law passed by the state Legislature last year prohibits doctors from performing “gender transition” surgeries on minors; it also forbids doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children.
The school concealed the social transition from the Does, referring to their daughter by her female name with parents while calling her by her preferred male name at school, the complaint alleges.
Dr. Jill Simons, executive director of the American College of Pediatricians, explains why these treatments are medically unsound, and why she has been impelled to engage with this hot-button issue.
The measure, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, is scheduled to take effect July 1 unless blocked by a court.
The court ultimately ruled that “providing health care coverage for gender transition services under the EEOC and HHS coverage mandates impinges upon CEA’s beliefs.”
The documents also show, according to a watchdog group, that the organization’s endorsement of transgender procedures for children is based on “pseudoscience.”
Dan and Jennifer Mead sued the Rockford Public School District, claiming that the school’s actions violated their First and 14th Amendment rights to exercise their religion and to make decisions about their daughter’s upbringing, education, and health care.
Washington University in St. Louis runs the clinic; Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is delving into the claims.
