The survey identified 171 victims of people connected with the Catholic Church, including 118 victims of abuse by clergy.
The CIASE Report’s findings regarding sexual abuse and the resignation of the archbishop of Paris have highlighted the fragility of the historical institutions that constitute the West, according to Catholic philosopher Pierre Manent.
Bishop Blanchet, who attended the papal audience on Monday, announced on Dec. 10 that he would be selling his residence to raise funds for the compensation of abuse victims.
This news, confirmed Nov. 12, came only a few days after the conclusion of the French bishops’ fall plenary assembly in Lourdes.
Before entering the Paul VI Hall for his general audience, Pope Francis took a moment to pray with four French bishops for the victims of sexual abuse.
