“We are horrified that our campaign which aims to help suffering women has been censored in such a draconian manner.”
Abduction and forced marriage of Christian and other minority girls is a widespread occurrence in Pakistan.
In a high-profile case this fall, a 44-year-old man kidnapped Arzoo Raja, a 13-year-old Catholic girl from Karachi, before forcing her to convert to Islam and marrying her.
‘Forced conversion has become a major tool for the persecution of Christians and Hindus in Pakistan,’ said a representative from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Pakistan.
Approximately 400 people protested the decision at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Karachi, and Christians in other parts of the country protested as well.
