The university has reached a settlement with Jack Denton, a member of the Class of 2021, agreeing to pay his lost wages as well as $10,000 in damages and attorneys’ fees.
Tyson Langhofer, Senior Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, which has been representing Denton in his claims, responded to the announcement on Monday, calling it “commendable.”
Denton, a rising senior at the university, was removed from his position as head of the university’s student senate in early June over remarks he made in a chat forum of the school’s Catholic student union in late May.
Screenshots of Denton’s texts show that he said “everyone should be aware that BlackLivesMatter.com, Reclaim the Block, and the ACLU all advocate for things that are explicitly anti-Catholic.”
