Cardinal Marc Ouellet, prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, said the international theological symposium will take place Feb. 17-19, 2022, at the Vatican.
The 68-year-old Cardinal Tobin has led the Archdiocese of Newark since January 2017.
A Nov. 11 letter from Cardinal Marc Ouellet says that proposals that had been scheduled for a vote by the bishops’ conference needed more time and discussion to “properly mature.”
Cardinal Marc Ouellet told the Register that he wished to offer ‘reassurance that the Congregation [for Bishops] is working for the best evaluation and accompaniment of the American episcopate’s questions.’
USCCB head said the bishops have not lessened their resolve for action and that they are not pleased by the Holy See’s decision.
COMMENTARY: The archbishop of Chicago will influence the shape of the Church in the United States for many years to come.
