Pope Francis has been vocal about the need for Catholics to take responsibility for the health of the environment.
The exhibition was developed as part of the project “Emotions to Generate Changes” and will be open to the public through May 27.
The Pope cited two concrete examples of how Indigenous representation has been developed on the international stage.
Demonstrators with the group Last Generation poured ‘mud and Nesquik’ onto the front of the cathedral, according to The Associated Press.
Video showed the demonstrators reading from the Pope’s documents, at one point while surrounded by the archbishop and two other clergy.
Pope Francis, who turns 87 in two weeks, canceled his scheduled trip to the United Arab Emirates days before the climate summit at the request of his doctors after coming down with a flu infection.
More recent polling from the Pew Research Center, conducted in June, similarly suggests that two-thirds of U.S. adults overall say the country should prioritize developing renewable energy sources.
