Catholic faithful in China and around the world take heart from the example set by these two courageous men
Rep. Chris Smith spoke at a Tuesday hearing of the commission on “China, Genocide, and the Olympics.”
In February, Ambassador Sam Brownback said that China was the “best in the world” at religious persecution, and has been engaged in a “war with faith.”
Under the new law, a person who is convicted of secession, subversion, terrorism or collusion with foreign forces will receive a minimum of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of a life sentence.
Pro-life groups were concerned that had the court ruled the other way, finding that foriegn NGOs had free speech protections, it would affect other government requirements, such as the Mexico City Policy, which mandates that foreign NGOs receiving U.S. funding do not promote or perform abortions.
Rep. Chris Smith’s resolution H.Res. 962, co-authored with Africa subcommittee chair Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., asks that President Trump use air support to fight locust swarms in the region by spraying areas to kill and deter their spread.
The bill, the Uighur Intervention and Global Humanitarian Unified Response Act (UIGHUR Act), passed the house overwhelmingly on Tuesday by a vote of 407 to one.
The finalized version of the rule was announced in a Feb. 22 press release from the Department of Health and Human Services.
