Jesuit Cardinal Luis Ladaria Ferrer, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, gave the opening remarks at a May 19-20 congress on ‘Humanae Vitae,’ the 1968 landmark encyclical from St. Paul VI.
Sources have told the Register that the two cardinals met with Cardinal Luis Ladaria shortly before the CDF sent a letter to the US bishops on pro-abortion politicians receiving the Eucharist.
“The bishops should affirm ... that ‘those who are directly involved in lawmaking bodies have a grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life,’” the prefect of the CDF wrote.
The handbook does not issue new norms or make alterations to current Church law, but is intended as a guide for bishops, dioceses, and religious communities on how to follow Church procedure in sex abuse cases.
