It is imperative that we rediscover the truth that ‘we are saved in community’
John Calvin believed in the Catholic dogma of the perpetual virginity, and interpreted Jesus’ ‘brothers’ in Scripture as his cousins.
John Calvin was wrong. As found in the Bible and taught by the Church, Christ died for all men.
“Since Christ died for all men, and since the ultimate vocation of man is in fact one, and divine, we ought to believe that the Holy Spirit in a manner known only to God offers to every man the possibility of being associated with this paschal mystery.” (Gaudium et Spes, 22)
“The Church, following the apostles, teaches that Christ died for all men without exception: ‘There is not, never has been, and never will be a single human being for whom Christ did not suffer.’” (CCC 605)
