The Argentine Bishops’ Conference expressed closeness to the victims of Bishop Gustavo Oscar Zanchetta. Argentine media have reported that the bishop was first accused of sexually inappropriate behavior as early as 2015.
Shortly after the news story was picked up by several Argentine media outlets, Bishop Jorge Ignacio García Cuerva of Río Gallegos, said that “the celebration was not authorized by this diocese.”
AP report contradicts a Vatican statement made just weeks ago.
