Key agenda items included the recently announced Israel-Lebanon ceasefire and efforts to address the humanitarian impacts of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

COMMENTARY: Antony Blinken’s recent cable to US diplomats was a distraction from the real work of diplomacy.
Blinken’s morning visit to Vatican City included a meeting with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, as well as a tour of the Sistine Chapel.
COMMENTARY: The secretary of state’s denunciation of the final report of the Commission on Unalienable Rights was unfair — and misleading.
During his confirmation hearings last week before members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Blinken said he would allow U.S. embassies to fly rainbow “Pride” flags and would appoint a Special Envoy for LGBTI issues at the agency.
Speaking at his Senate confirmation hearing, Antony Blinken also endorsed outgoing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s declaration that the Chinese government is engaged in ‘genocide’ against Muslim ethnic minorities.
