Representatives of the Holy See and China signed the provisional agreement on Sept. 22, 2018.
The cardinal's words are in response to a Vatican correspondent claiming on social media that “a source” close to Pope Benedict XVI had told her that the pope emeritus did not write the book with Sarah, or give authorization for its publication.
COMMENTARY: The leaked letters of Cardinal Ouellet to Cardinal DiNardo suggest that a new era in Vatican media may be dawning, and it’s significant.
Analysis: The Pope himself has recently dropped a few hints as to where he stands on some major issues discussed at the previous synods in his new book-length interview with Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli.
‘This is a book in which the Pope opens his heart, taking us by the arm to enter into the great mercy of God,’ explained Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Venezuelan Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino said the letter ‘is a very small thing compared with the wonderful work that’s being done by the almost 400 people working at the synod.’
