Arkansas Right to Life Executive Director Rose Mimms said the ADH’s report of no abortions, even to save the life of the mother, shows abortion does not need to be available for any reason.
David Cox, the assistant director of the Little Rock-based Family Council, said that “if passed, the amendment’s language would effectively erase decades of good, pro-life laws.”
The law provides for an “unclassified felony” for anyone who performs an abortion in the state except in a medical emergency, with a fine of up to $100,000, ten years in prison, or both.
Eight states that have issued temporary bans on elective surgical abortions as non-essential medical procedures during the pandemic are fighting in court to keep the bans, many of which have been partially or completely stopped by federal courts.
