Cardinal: Trig Palin a ‘Star’

Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston yesterday hailed the presence of baby Trig Palin on the national political stage.
Trig Palin is the five-month-old son of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd. He was diagnosed before birth with Down syndrome.
“I very seldom get to see any television, but I did watch part of the political conventions, and for me the star of the conventions was Trig Palin, whose mother said that he was ‘beautiful’ and ‘perfect,’” Cardinal O’Malley said, the Boston Globe reported.
The cardinal was speaking at a Respect Life gathering in Boston.
In a statement at the time of Trig’s birth, the Palin family said, “We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives.”
In his remarks yesterday, Cardinal O’Malley said that 90% of Down syndrome children are being aborted in the United States.
“This is what we mean by the culture of death,” he said. “This is what we’re here today about, to try and change, to make our country a safe place for children, born and unborn.”
