New Media

The Register is a broadsheet newspaper, but recently, we’ve
made some “new media” waves.
First, with Pope2008.com, the blog our senior writer Tim
Drake is keeping before, during and after upcoming papal events.
Tim’s work has gotten a lot of notice — including a recent
interview on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Catholic Channel. But here’s the most
unusual attention: Professor Jim Coyle at Franciscan University of Steubenville
has been teaching a course on the use of new media in Catholic communications.
He assigned students a paper on Pope2008.com’s blog coverage. Then he
interviewed Tim, with the students present, and made the interview available as
a podcast on his Catholic Media Journal website.
In other 21st century developments at the Register, our
archives are now greatly expanded online. We don’t have all 80 years online,
but we have more than 10 years worth. The oldest story available: Dominican
Father Peter John Cameron’s “This Sunday at Mass” from June of 1996.
God bless!
